The Day in the Life of SluggoAAFA
Black Friday; November 24, 2006

The day after Thanksgiving. The day that all retail stores finally make their sales quota for the year.  The day that the malls are jammed pack full of lots of people, the highways are busy, and the public transportation is full of people.

Ever since I got out of retail, I vowed to myself that I would never go into a shopping mall or store on Black Friday again.  So I haven't. But today, my roommate wanted to go to Macy's down the street.  It was innocent enough. The time was around 7pm, so it truly wasn't going to be too busy.

When we walked in, there were remnence of hundreds of people picking up clothes and dropping them, not thinking about putting them back the way they found them.  Trash all over the floor. Food smooshed into the floor. Drinks spills all over the place. Tired employees who just want the day to end.

We were on a mission.  Replacing shoes for our other roommate.  We found a good pair, and the sales clerk starts going off on this "Yes, the shoes are on a great sale price blah, blah, blah..."  Well, my friend usually buys Rockports at the Rockport store and knows that these shoes are generally $90.  So, he told the guy this and the clerk was just like..."Oh no, these are on a very special sale blah, blah, blah..."

At this point, If I knew this guy was trying to pull one over on me, I would have just said Thank you, and walked away....nope, my friend didn't do this. He tried to argue about the shoe and that it is has always been the same price for the past 10 years now.

Well, after about 20 minutes of this back and forth (I was looking at the cologne by this point) my friend finds me and wants to look at jeans. So we finally get to the jeans section, he finds a good pair, and we buy them and leave.

We get all the way home, he was going to put them on, and come to find out the Security Tag is still on them.  The security detector didn't go off when we left, but it went crazy when we came back into the store.

I can't deal with stupiditiness and this is why I don't do Black Friday's anymore.

Until next time,

Sluggo
