Traveling on another carrier; November 17, 2006

Since I fly for American Airlines, I get to travel on passes which are little to no cost (depending on where I'm going or cabin I'm sitting).  I also get the chance to buy a discounted fare on a few other carriers which allow me to go to more places.

Like today, all flights on American Airlines are full flying from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Chicago to New York.  But flights on Northwest from Minneapolis to New York JFK are wide open.  So, some of the advantages of being an employee of an airline is good...but it can be awful when the weather turns bad!!!

Even though we get discounted fares, we are still on the standby list on both airlines. Which means, we go only if there is space available.  If something happens, Mechanical, Weather, or something else...then the flight can go from being empty, to being completely full within mere minutes.

Today looks to be like a good day to fly on Northwest. All flight from Minneapolis to New York are wide-open...however, all flights on American are all full.

The joys of commuting!
